daily : … you’ll be lucky :D)

Quite a lot is happening .. in the wider world and here at my desk.

• First up, the latest OS upgrade for computer and phone .. took over a day before everything settled back to Mac normality. However the running seems smooth , possibly slightly faster , but with nano seconds you are never sure whether that is wishful thinking.

• I continue to use TweetDeck / Twitter to scour the ” real”world” as politicians call it, though from what I can see, it looks as though they live in the fantasy world while the rest of us are condemned to the nightmare of real cuts , real price rises and a transport system out of the dark ages.

• Throughout the world .. Europe USA and UK, people are on the rests in the OCCUPY campaign protesting against corporate and banking criminality and the casino style lottery that has become world finance.

• Politicians are inept, careless , corrupt and mired in sleaze and mal-administration – in cahoots with the police force and multi-national news organizations.

• this blog is supposed to be a serious outlet for my thoughts and comments possibly through the medium of video and writing to include a researched perspective using the new media and social interactive technology …

• There will also be my particular form of free form verse though that is reserved for more deeper, personal and introspective expression.

• It may also be the base from which I practice as a proof reader for some of my friends engaged in academic research.

•the appearance is retro Mac in respect to a full circle. It was in an interface like this that I first began my journey into the realm of new technology …and it is to its clear, minimal clarity that I return, suitably post modernised, and skilled with the means of delivery my concepts to a wider audience than can be dreamed of … though of course the depends on the number of readers…

…….. and so

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Scenes from Manchester 2011 … showing police chasing and beating inner city residents. A reaction to the rioting and looting in protest at the financial cuts crisis.

Significantly the police have always been quasi military arm of the UK government*. More significantly people are protesting world wide at the greed and corruption of Governments and Financial institutions.

This is an ongoing story … so more anon….

*1 Home Secretary Churchill ordered the army with the police into Liverpool in 1911 resulting in shootings and deaths of innocent by-standers, though with all his words he did not have the convenience of the spinner’s tag “collateral damage” … rather, he hushed up courts martial of a soldier who refused to shoot on the public thereby heading off a military execution for dessertion and burying the news under on the grounds of national security.

2 Thatcher engineered the Miners’ strike in the 80’s and confronted them with mounted police violence and at the poll tax riots later towards the end of her period of office.

3 The 2011 coalition government imported thousands of police into London in the face of protests at the financial cuts arising out of the scandalous gambling that banks and financial institutions wrought with nation’s economies world wide.

… and so ……

50 reasons not to date a graphic designer

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

50 reasons not to date a graphic designer.

1. They are very weird people.
2. There are billions of them in the world, like colors on the screen of your computer.
3. They will analyse conversations in layers.
4. You will spend the day assembling furniture from IKEA.
5. They drink and eat all kinds of weird shit just because they like the packaging.
6. They hate each other.
7. You’ll come out the last out of the movies because you have to see the full list of credits.
8. They cant change a light bulb or without making a sketch.
9. They fuck up all the tables with their cutters.
10. They rather study the paisley pattern on your outfit than listen to what you have to say.
11. They will fill your house with magazines and whatever is out there that has drawings.
12. You never know if it is really an original or a copy.
13. They make collages with your photos.
14. They do not know how to add and subtract, they just understand letters.
15. They idolize people who nobody knows and speak of them as if they were his colleagues.
16. They take pictures almost daily and all are cut in weird shapes.
17. They ask your opinion about everything but  they do whatever they want.
18. Everything is left justified, right or center unless they arrive late.
19. They hate Comic Sans with the same passion they love Helvetica.
20. They use iPhone for everything, because everyone has one.
21. You can not decorate the house without consulting them.
22. They steal street signs.
23. Always carry their hands painted with something.
24. They buy dolls unfinished for them to paint.
25. Everything becomes something other than what it really is: cards as tickets, cards as …
26. When arguing, you will be nicknamed like the OSX spinning wheel (not affectionately)
27. Do not know how to dress without consulting the Pantone book.
28. They hate Excel.
29. They read comics.
30. They want to save the world only with a poster.
31. You will spend the day brainstorming.
32. On vacation they will take you to countries that you do not know exist and have no beach.
33. Museums are their second home.
34. They know more positions than the Kamasutra.
35. They can’t go to a restaurant without secretly critiquing the menu design.
36. They listen to music you have never heard of.
37. They can´t cook a normal dish, they always have to experiment with new ingredients.
38. They read rare books: stories of children, Semiotics …
39. When you are going to tell you something, everyone has read it in their facebook and twitter.
40. They have own iPods before you knew they existed.
41. The orgasm they remember is when they heard that Adobe was acquiring Macromedia.
42. They have their own shops just for them and there are the most expensive in the city.
43. They want to spend all the money in the Apple Store.
44. You will never understand their gifts.
45. They see ordinary objects and laugh.
46. You wake up in the middle of the night hearim them screaming “When is the deadline?”
47. They see CMYK and RGB like Neo sees the Matrix.
48. They dream of the day nobody will make a single change to their designs.
49. They rather pay for a font than for a special birthday gift.
50. They are always sleepy because they work 24/7.

Actually it’s only 48 reasons …. No self respecting graphic designer would be seen dead in IKEA . … and there aren’t millions of them. 83% are wannabes …

061011 : after shock / after storm :

Friday, October 7th, 2011

there is too much to say
and so many things to ask
and apologies to make
plans to be made and lists to be checked

so many tears to share
and so many fears to allay
and truths to be told
smiles to be given and silences to be filled

so many heart beats to be felt
and so many sighs to soothed
and touches to be shared
breaths to be heard and pulses to be sensed

so many texts to be sent
and emails to be written
and calls to be made
letters to be writ and notes to be exchanged

and none possible without you

Visual essay on the financial crisis 2011: as I post this, Greek and Italian members of the EEC are embroiled in the after shock of the international scandal wrought by the greed of the bankers and speculators of the world money market casino.

People of the wold Occupy the streets in protest to be beaten into submission by the police forces of the Governments who themselves, mired in corruption, are unable to control the International Bankers and prevent them from stealing a nation’s wealth for themselves.
